春节快乐 WITH THIS EASY HOT POT BROTH!

7:22 AM Happy Lunar New Year to all of my Asian lovebirds! Happy year of the pig and all of the best vibes your way!
I never had a deep relationship to the Asian culture, besides eating their delicious food... Being friends with many Asians today, I learn more about their culture, values, and also special holidays!
Today is actually the longest holiday of the year — yes, Chinese New Year, or Lunar Year is a big deal... So big that every brand seems to offer special deals today!
We celebrate the year of the pig now, so don't get confused to see so many pigs around you, haha. While my first association would be Schnitzel, there's actually more to know about the zodiac sign "pig": pigs have a beautiful personality and are blessed with good fortune in life, in Chinese culture, pigs are the symbol of wealth.

Since I am totally excited about this beautiful day and I won't get any money presents in red envelopes, I wanted to treat myself with a special dish! Today I plan to do a lot of self-care and spa time. Sooo... what's a good dish for the perfect self-care day? Hot pot!!
My Asian co-worker introduced me to this — an Asian inspired Fondue, just a bit more hot, spicy, and exotic!

This is not only popular today — a perfect party food, but also a cozy and cold winter buddy!
You don't even need company to enjoy this... There are many ways to create your own hot pot situation at home, but today I want to show you the easiest and smoothest.
First of all. You don't need to make your own broth for hot pot! There are many options to buy at Asian grocery stores and they also offer special spices or sauces which can make the broth a little more sexy!
Since I am a fan of a rich and homemade broth (especially during winter), I am showing you a nice basic broth recipe for your hot pot party!

HOT POT BROTH

YOU NEED 2l beef/chicken or vegetable broth + 4 cloves garlic + 3 slices ginger + 1 onion + 1/4 Cup dry sherry + 4 bay leaves + 1 star anise + 2 tablespoons soy sauce + 1 teaspoon salt

1. Take out a big pot or the special hot pot and add all the ingredients.
2. Boil it on medium heat for 1 hour with the lid on.
3. After 1 hour, remove the spices, onions, ginger, and garlic.
4. The broth is ready now for the hot pot party ~

Now you only need to gather your favorite ingredients to enjoy the best hot pot! Chicken, beef, fish, spinach, Asian broccoli, all kinds of mushrooms, sweet potato, lotus root, corn — whatever you desire!

*Caution: for hot pot one really needs some good equipment! There are affordable hot pots to get at Asian supermarkets, but also online! The hot pot is getting super hot with boiling broth in it... so don't cook with cheap equipment!

With the Asian hot pots, one usually has two separate parts in which you can boil different broths! A normal broth with all the basic ingredients and another one with some chili, or hot pepper. Try it yourself and definitely don't forget to buy some extra sauces for some dipping fun ~

You will love this!
Happy Lunar New Year to all of you!
