MEET DIRTY OJ: ORANGE JUICE + MORINGA

8:19 AM One thing I struggled a lot with as a kid (actually until today lol) was adding more fruits to my food parties, since I am having such a hard time with consistencies, structures, or any weird bits and pieces inside my fruit. Banana smelled bad and I always had to remove the strings aside, raspberries are soft and hairy...tangerines and oranges were the all time enemy — crazy peeling, the ugly white skin and the feeling of the actual pulp in my mouth made me run away — very far away! You can imagine how much more stuff I refused to eat, haha.

As a grown-up person, I now made peace with some fruits, but until today I refuse to drink orange juice with pulp! I actually refused to drink orange juice for a long time, because I was too scared that someone passes me a drink with extra pulp inside, haha.
2-3 years ago, I decided to give oj a chance again....once in a while, a glass of cold oj is so soothing and such a well treat! Unfortunately we are getting too much extra sugar in our bottles of "fresh oj" and so I decided to wave the white flag and be brave!

I bought 4 oranges, juiced them, poured all the juice through a strainer so that each and everything I don't like is not landing in my glass — et voilà! I had my very own FRESH and CLEAN oj - and it was fantastic!!

Since I'm on my healthy journey, I love to experiment. I love to make healthy things even healthier without any big difference and this is how this recipe was created! In Cape Town, I invested in plenty of moringa, since I enjoy moringa tea so much!! Moringa is so cheap in South Africa....you have no idea!

Anyways. I love moringa for its rich source if vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It's filled with antioxidants and next to all the vitamins (A,C, and E), it also contains potassium and protein! This boy here is a killer-machine! I love it!!! (For the info nerds: moringa is also a good helper for wound healing, fighting infections and inflammation, and it is supporting our dear brain (there's much more, though...)).

Since I am enjoying the flavor so much (it's smells like a green tea with an earthy undertone, but it tastes like matcha and spirulina made a baby - not too herb and slightly sweet) I thought this matches perfectly to my fresh oj! That's how my morning glory oj got the perfect update - hello health, hello dirty oj! 

I call this buddy dirty oj, because the moringa doesn't help making this look cute...the orange juice will turn into a mustard color which is not super pretty, but more important is the flavor and I LOVE IT BEYOND! Try it yourself! 


DIRTY OJ 

YOU NEED 4-5 oranges for a very big cup (if you want more oj, buy more oranges) + 1 lime  + 1/2 teaspoon moringa (again, if you have more oranges, you can go up to 1 teaspoon of moringa)


1. Take your oranges & lime, cut them and juice them with a squeezer. It's always an act...I know, but it's so worth it ~
2. Pour the orange juice through a strainer to make sure that there's no pulp leftover or any seeds which you might accidently drink
3. Now add 1/2 teaspoon of moringa and mix it with the orange juice. Stir well until everything is blended well!
4. Transfer your juice to your favorite morning cup or use a glass bottle to cool your dirty oj for the next day - it's up to you! (I always prefer a cold oj)
5. Enjoy and feel dirty :)
